New Horse, Same old Race

Wouldn't be much of a political blog without an occasional comment on politcal campaigns now would it?

This week Dean Barnett over at the Hugh Hewittt Townhall blog announced a dead pool for the McCain campaign.  Check that out here Introducing the McCain Campaign Dead Pool!

For reasons first outlined in my post from August 25th I will pick, hmm let me see, oh, I know, how about August 25th!

Not based on much more than my yen for symmetry.  You can revisit that post here McCain: Maybe For Thee, But Not For Me but the bottom line is this excerpt: There is one remote possibility I could endorse McCain however, the highly unlikely possibility that he renounces McCain Feingold. I'll not be holding my breath.

In a follow up post I argued McCain damaged his own conservative bonafides in both Kennedy McCain immigration bill and the aforementioned assault on the first ammendment.

That would require a humility I do not think McCain posesses which is on full display in his siding with the White House on this immigration reform measure.  I do not doubt his sincerity on either issue but the "I know what's best for you" mindset has an elitist authoritarian flavor I just can't stomache.

In other big news former Senator and celebrity Fred Thompson looks like he is getting ready to join the race.  Good for him.  He just adds to an already formidable mix that so outweighs the Democrats in terms of heft and gravitas it isn't even funny.

But, to be fair, for my support, at some point, and probably the sooner the better for his campaign, Thompson will have to renounce his yea vote on McCain Feingold.  He can nothing better to prove he doesn't just play a conservative on TV.
