Stop, Listen, What's That Sound?

Like I said last week, the Immigration Deform debacle wasn't killed last week so much as it was playing possum.  The most amazing thing about this whole process is the Senates steadfast refusal to bend to the will of their constituency.  The smell test on this sucker is sure to singe the nostril hairs.

I am not advocating that policy be determined by pure plebiscite but certainly a 70% opposition should at least be given time to air their concerns.  Not so say elitists Bush. Lott, McCain, Graham, Kennedy et. all.

There's something happening here...

We are in interesting times.
Consider:
Readership of main stream media is in a steep and steady decline corresponding with precipitous rise in blocs and alternative news sources, along with the continued dominance of conservative talk radio, a singular dominance by the way.

Confidence in Congress polls at record low of 14%.

COINCIDENCE?

Doubt it. Suddenly, and finally, after a viable and trustworthy alternative to the main stream media/elitist liberal narrative reaches a critical mass, the folks aren't quite so pliable.

And the response from the ruling class?  Talk of reintroducing the fairness doctrine.  The idea that those in power openly discuss ways to limit free speech at a time when technology provides amazingly effective means to facilitate wider participation is the irony of our age.  If we could harness the energy generated by the framers spinning in their graves energy independence would be a cinch.

And to those of you holding onto the quaint notion that we are a nation governed "by the people", well, sorry.  If you believe that I've got some land between Iowa and Wisconsin I'd like to sell you.

When confronted with the opinions of the unwashed masses this bunch not only refuses to listen but schemes policy initiatives to abridge the input.  Pretty astonishing when you think about it.  Why, it's brazen assault on the 1st amendment is almost Feingoldian!

Speaking of which, thanks to the Supreme Court Messrs McCain and Feingold both suffered a hard lesson in constitutional law last week.  Stick a fork in the old war horse.  My prediction of his withdraw from the Presidential race is August 25th, the date marking a year when I predicted both McCain Feingold and McCain Kennedy will be the end of him.

As for our own little cheesehead maverick?  The only accomplishment of note in his entire Senate career is ruled unconstitutional.  To go beyond the fact that this is a fitting tribute to his character, and a true measure of his talent, would be piling on.
