They Don't Call it Left Field For Nothing ....
Had to share this link courtesy Real Clear Politics. Will post something more in line with my philosophies tomorrow.
On this July 4, we would do well to renounce nationalism and all its symbols: its flags, its pledges of allegiance, its anthems, its insistence in song that God must single out America to be blessed.
So in some lefty circles, and the pages of Progressive magazine, but I repeat myself, it seems reasonable to suggest using a holiday to renounce its original purpose. He goes on in closing ...
We need to refute the idea that our nation is different from, morally superior to, the other imperial powers of world history.
We need to assert our allegiance to the human race, and not to any one nation.
If you have the stomach for it RTWT http://progressive.org/media_mpzinn070106
This anti-American claptrap courtesy the much revered author and historian Howard Zinn. I had the pain of experiencing a radio interview of his. It's all I needed. He had me convinced he sincerely believes the only measurement of this country is body counts, those inflicted by the U.S. No offsets were given for bringing down Hitler, communism, etc. Our "atrocities", with absolutely no slack given for either good intentions or honest mistakes. Body counts alone makes us just another imperial evil.
This post renders the essence of the modern Americanliberal leftist groupthink, a term I choose carefully out of respect for my many liberal friends. It has all the hallmarks: arrogance, fundamental secularism, moral relativism, sneering condescension, all underscored with a yearning for some sort of boundaryless utopias new world order, no doubt under the auspices of the UN. Sheesh. It is the lefty biggie meal with all the fixins served up large.
Well I don't know about you but I won't hesitate, nor be even a teeny embarrassed, in celebrating the obvious tomorrow: that by any honest historic or humanitarian measure the United States is decidedly exceptional. We introduced the concept that a government should be subservient to it's governed. Man if that isn't exceptional the word has no meaning. Imperialist indeed.
The other concern about this mindset is in regard to its prevalence on most campuses, where, as it happens, most of our journalists graduate. It's what we traditionalists are up against, and it will be a long and continuous battle.
Thanks to blogs, AM radio and a single TV network we finally have a voice. We should use those arenas to expose the ideologies of Dr Zinn and his fellow travelers and see how they fare in the marketplace of ideas. I mean really, anyone who looks at America and doesn't see exceptionalism is either not paying attention or is willfully blind, not surprisingly, a common trait with other forms of fundamentalism.
