Mrs. Clinton Goes Down
An astute reader sends this:
Just wait till the general election.
I assume that Hillary will still win her party's nomination. Then she will find herself in a pickle in the general election. All of the GOP big five, even Rudy, will be far more likable than she will be to the average, non-ideological swing voter. All will be far less corrupt. All will be more experienced. Therefore, the only way she can win is to run a vicious and dirty campaign, magnifying any small problems the GOP nominee might have, and even inventing stuff to muddy the waters, so the average voter thinks that both Hillary and her opponent are equally corrupt, without character, ambitious, evasive, and annoying, and thus the voter should vote for the out party, the Democrats.
Depending on the GOP candidate, and his campaign, this may be just enough to elect her.
One scary scenario ol buddy......
(Hat tip to Red Pepper)
As liquid as this primary has become this scenario would be more likely only a few days ago than it is today. As it stands now the first assumption above, that Hillary will win the nomination, is not necessarily a safe bet. New polls show that not only is Bill Clinton's wife fading in Iowa but in New Hampshire too. Could it be that we are witnessing the end of the Bush / Clinton dynasty already? That certainly doesn't square with her, and her lapdog MSM, presumption of inevitability, but it's looking more possible each passing day. It also makes this, what was already promised to be the most open Presidential race in modern history, even more so. Fasten your seat belts and tighten your chin straps folks. This one's gonna be a barn burner.
But even if we don't get Hillary as the eventual nominee we will still be treated to her true nature and the politics of personal destruction. Red is right, her only chance would be to increase her opponents negatives to match her own because in the end that's all she's got. My concern is that regardless of who wins their consultants know that negative campaigning works and will proceed apace. So no matter who becomes the Democratic nominee you can rest assured that there will be negativity enough. Let's face it, the fact of the matter is the Democrats only hope is to reduce the selection to a choice between the lesser of two evils.
Giving her the benefit of the doubt for a moment, that she really is as smart as everyone says she is, she must also be smart enough to realize that if she dares to try a positive approach, i.e. running on what she's for, as opposed to who she's against, it won't work. Not only is it not in her DNA, but more importantly, the things she does stand for, socialized medicine, higher taxes, bigger government, weaker military, etc. would never sell.
Yes, signs of desperation are becoming apparent. What else could explain researching an opponents kindergarten experience? This my friends is not a sign of confidence.
In a very small way I'm a little disappointed. The image of a Romney Clinton matchup, and the stark comparison it offers, him, with a strong, solid marriage, both private and public accomplishments and enough wealth to be incorruptible, and her, with a questionable marriage, no experience outside of government, and a documented money grubber, would be as clear of choice as we are likely to see. Who knows? Could still happen, but if she goes down early, you won't see me crying.
