Obama on Judge Selection
Continuing my compare and contrast series on the 3 areas that W got it right, security, judges, and taxes, here, again in his own words, is Senator Changeyface on Supreme Court justice selection...
"We need somebody who’s got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that’s the criteria by which I’m going to be selecting my judges."
Hey I'm not a complete hardass, and can certainly respect and appreciate the role of empathy, but not, ever, to the extent where it can serve as a substitute for the rule of law. Good grief.
I don't know which is the more frightening prospect, that he actually believes this and might be President, or that law professors, as Obama was previously, routinely teach such drivel. At what point did feelings replace the plain meaning of words?
On the other hand, lessons on the constitution coming John McCain, like today in NC, while McCain Feingold is still in effect, is little hard to take. If you believe he is humble enough to actually appoint judges who will find that legislation as the constitutional travesty it is, then you are giving him the benefit of the doubt I believe he has already squandered by pushing it through. More likely I think he is the sort who would hold it out as a litmus test for his nominees. As is often the case these days, I hope I am wrong.
Also, in an unrelated matter, Christopher Hitchens has some choice words for Ms. Obama. I related to this comment in particular:
I don’t need any condescending liberal to explain to me why black Americans are inclined to be touchy about the way their forebears were treated any more than I require a patronizing former Harvard law student to guide me through the anxieties of the gun-owning and hunting community.
to RTWT Are We Getting Two for One?
(If you have time it's always interesting to witness liberal tolerance, just check out the comments on this column. Appears his welcome is wearing....)
My own two cents; I don't need any lessons on "true patriotism" from the same patronizing individual. One man's flag lapel pin is another's dissent. That, to me, was the first tip-off as to the Obama elitism. Having a history in the Hyde Park area of Chicago I recognized it early on. It's not so much an elitism as it is a sort of knowing "specialness" of living or being from there.
Tonight is Super Tuesday, what is it by now, part 28? Stay tuned....
