Turns
Whoa, did anyone get the license number of that turnip truck that ran us over? Got an e-mail from a good Buddy; "how can this country be so f****g stupid?" My reply; 4 and 8 years ago this week all of our liberal friends were asking the same question.
Now it's their turn. The bucket of worms they inherit, the worst of which is the economy, dooms them to failure and campaign promise-breaking on an equally historic scale. Have at it folks. Good luck with that.
We can rightfully take pride in the fact that someone who could literally have been bought or sold as property in 1776 is elected President in 2008. That's progress regardless your political stripe. The irony is that in the radical leftist worldview, which some of us legitimately fear is held by Obama, we are all merely wards of the state, slaves by another name. That certainly adds a gnarly twist to that destiny thing.
With all the fundamentals in his favor, star quality charisma accompanied by an American Idol culture, and did I mention he's black?, I really don't see how even a perfect GOP candidate with a flawless campaign could have won. It simply was not meant to be. The voters wanted the most change money could buy, ponied up big time, and got what they paid for.
Since Obama won by a margin, neither a landslide or mandate, but beyond that which could have been stolen, I congratulate a successful effort and support him as President. In doing so I fully grant him two courtesies never extended Bush by the left, the benefit of the doubt and acknowledgement of the legitimacy of his election.
That being said, I do maintain my right to criticize any time he does something stupid. I give him til Friday. Sooner if there's any truth to the rumor he will name Rahm Emmanuel his chief of staff, which will immediately put the lie to any rhetoric about bipartisanship in bold underlined CAPS. If Rahm Emmanuel is bipartisan David Duke is Barack Obama's gay lover.
A couple of political truisms were borne out, the first being that in order for a Democrat to win the primary they have to run left. He accomplished that with Iraq. Second, for a Democrat to win the general they have to run to the right, which he did on taxes. Of all of Obama's change mantras, tax cuts was the most repeated.
The problems is that with such a thin legislative record, and a shamefully non-inquisitive and worshipfully compliant press, we still don't know who this guy is. But we know, or at least we are pretty sure, he isn't his opponent, George Bush.
With 8 years of relentless hate, vitriol, attacks, name calling, character assassinations, and non-stop bile, the left and the media, pardon the redundancy, plunged and kept Bush's ratings at record lows. A lot of hoopla will be made over the genius of the Obama campaign when in all reality it simply boiled down to an intensified continuation of Bush bashing and linking him to McCain. Negative branding worked.
To be fair Bush's inability to market the brand helped. Though I somehow doubt they'll blame Obama's victory on Bush like they do everything else.
