The Primordial Ooze of Chicago Politics....

...sure has a distinctive stench about it, funny though, it doesn't have that hopey changey aroma we've come to expect.

After living there 13 years and growing up in the Midwest, the only thing about Chicago politics that surprises me is that it still has the capacity to surprise.  But you sure gotta hand it to Blago for taking it to new levels.  I can't figure out whether the dude is either criminally insane or certifiably retarded, but either way he seems to function perfectly well in the world of Illinois politics.

It occurred to me that Blago might be neither, and is not even human.  I think he's a cabbage patch kid, grown up and gone wrong. See for yourself...

Creepy huh?

It's is truly a pity, and I mean that in all sincerity, that the President Elect couldn't go just a little longer before the taint of his political origins took center stage. Thing is now, without a McCain or Palin to divert our attention, the adoring press can't ignore him because he's the only game in town.  Presumably all the uncomfortable questions are his alone.  We've already seen kid glove treatment taken to new levels as well, or is it just me who notices how the press bends over backwards to remind us that even though Obama came from there, he's different.  Right.

Even though his hand has never been caught in one Illinois politics is nothing but a collection of cookie jars.  This, of course, requires we overlook Michelle's sudden salary doubling once her husband became Senator, the huge government grant her employer received around the same time, and an extremely favorable real estate deal courtesy a convicted felon.. Sure, some cookies are technically legal while others, auctioning off a Senate seat for example, clearly are not.  The idea that someone could rise so far so fast in a veritable cookie bakery without a nibble along the way is borderline fantasy, or a day in the life of mainstream media.

And really, who can blame the media for not warning us during the campaign when they were busy combing through the Wasilla Alaska city council minutes in search of theocratic implementation?  The press made it abundantly clear that a cardboard cutout from the cesspool of Chicago politics was obviously preferable to the worst of humanity - - a God-fearin, gun-totin, pro-life woman.

Whatever, if their readers, and his voters, believed he was qualified to be President in the first place the gullibility supply is more than ample to get him through this debacle.  The only question now is whether it is big enough to last four years.  Watch the spin.  That this has happened so early enables them to peddle all subsequent Illinois scandals as "old news".

After being so in the tank for Obama the mainstream media has to protect their investment.  Why remains a mystery.  Myriad stories about circulation and revenue declines, and the resulting financial pains, at the New York Times, NBC, Tribune Companies, Gannett, shows that market forces for media stock is inching toward equilibrium with their previous stock in trade - - credibility.  Both are approaching record lows.  In this regard my pity is far less sincere.  Their bigger-government-can-solve-everything ideology will be of little help.  Besides, if you need a bailout on bankrupt credibility, the government would be the last place to look.
