The Face of America

Ugh.  Hey I know I'm no beauty either but the idea that this broad will be our face abroad is more than a little unsettling. I dusted off an essay I began when it appeared she was destined to be the nominee.  Read on for further reservations...

If facts are stubborn things then math can be even worse....

Though I decided against it as a career, I still have vivid memories of my brief experience in the commodity trading business.  One was having to run a $6 million dollar check to a nearby bank to cover margins for the firms daily trades.  No body guards, no escort at all.  I guess they figured no one would ever think some young punk in a shoddy trading jacket would be walking around, running actually, believe me, with that much loot.

As it happens my tenure actually spanned the same period of the amazing ahem, "success” ($10 to $100K) that Hillary Clinton experienced over a 10-month stretch back in the 80’s, while First Lady of Arkansas.  I, and anyone else with even a casual familiarity with the commodities trade, knows this story never came anywhere near passing the smell test, not the same zip code, region, country, or planet.

After the final bell of the trading session we would proceed to the office to “clear" trades.  All the trading cards were dispensed among staff for clarification and final recording.  It was pretty basic.  The stiff, cardboard like, 4 by 5 inch cards, had a bold grid pattern, one side for sells the other for buys, for traders to fill in price, commodity symbol, date, and initials of both the buying and selling traders.  This seemed, and pretty much was, rather routine and mundane. But there was a little something, even beyond the fact we were dealing in multi thousand dollar increments, that kept an electric charge in the air: the fact that altering these written transactions was a felony.

Needless to say, we took it seriously.  So, seeing how staying out of jail seemed prudent, we bent over backwards to make sure the trades were good. I recall more than once having to track down a trader in nearby watering holes to make sure a particular trade was clean.  This was all before cell phones.  The tips, by the way, could be amazing for this kind of service, especially if they already had a few and you just saved them thousands.

The statistical probability of an investor realizing a 1000% payback, in any commodity, over any 10-month period, at any time in history, is in the percentage range of at least three digits to the right of point zero zero.  For starters, it means you would A) have to make a ton of trades and B) every single buy had to be at the low and C) every single sell had to be at the high D) every single time.  Not.  Bloody.  Likely.  In other words, the statistical probability is so remote it renders the actual possibility non-existent. On the other hand, and in conclusion, the probability that these trades were doctored after the session is higher by a factor of 10, minimum.

Just because she hasn’t been convicted doesn't’t mean she isn’t a criminal.  Even though every time someone brings it up it gets dismissed as old news there has never been a serious legal investigation.  Remember, the commodities business isn’t like government where you can spend other people’s money with reckless abandon only to have Uncle Sam cover it by printing more.  Commodities trading really is a zero sum proposition - - when someone makes money on a trade, someone else loses it.

I will grant that in the scheme of things $100 grand may not be all that big of a deal, but it’s still one hundred thousand reasons Hillary Clinton should be behind bars, or at least investigated although I am sure the statue of limitations has expired by now.  Anyway, we mustn't forget, it’s only a scandal when it’s a Republican.  When it’s Democrat it’s just, you know, business as usual.  Just ask Charlie Rangel, Chris Dodd, Cold Cash Jefferson, Rod Blagojovich etc etc...

This is a post from a Commodity Market Information website that nicely sums up Clinton’s amazing “success”.

The truth is Hillary Clinton’s $100,000 in commodity profits were completely and totally fraudulent, and the evidence for this, while circumstantial, is overwhelming, beyond any shadow of doubt. Also, to say that this has been investigated is simply false, it never was. Once Leo Melamed provided some cover the press quickly and gladly dropped the story, they really did not want to find the truth. Plus no government agency or independent prosecutor ever investigated this.
…. Hillary Clinton’s $100,000 commodity profits were achieved through fraud and virtually every word she has said about this affair has been, and continues to be, a lie. I would bet my life on this and not lose a moments sleep.
Just wanted to set the record straight.

These comments came from highly respected career commodity brokers.

So there you have it, a straightened out wrinkle from the pages of the dossier of our pending Secretary of State.  Lovely.  When I realize she will be the face of America, I get a weird sense of kinship with America haters.  If she is the best we can offer as a representative of all that is right and good about this country, God help us.  I said in November her not being in the White House was a silver lining of the Obama victory.   Sec of State is too close for my comfort.  Chalk this one up as a black mark  er, demerit for the kid from Kenya.

Rumors of impropriety regarding her favoring countries who donated to her husbands foundation are already swirling.  Per AP courtesy Hot Air her habit of paying back her husband’s donors

It will be curious to see whether the media will refit the old kid gloves they used for her before they anointed Obama, or simply use the ones they had custom made and reinforced for himself.  My bet is it won't even come up.  Wonder how that jibes with his promise of transparency.  Change indeed.
