But Don't Call U.S. Exceptional!
Caught this map reference in a CNN presentation of Thomas P.M. Barnett discussing his new book on a Post Bush World. Yeah I know, what kind of political junkie tivos c span? Creepy. mea culpa.
If you are similalrly dimented you can see it here Great Powers: America and the World After Bush 284042-1 : C-SPAN ...
Not sure I agree with his politics ("Obama smartest President in 100 years"? ) but I do respect his powers of observation. Read the Pentagons New Map and Blueprint for Action both very worthwhile reads and will probably pick up his latest. Great Powers: America and the World After Bush
(btw if you click through and buy here I get a small percentage, an arrangement I intend to exploit further when time allows...)
One point I wholeheartedly endorse was his comment that America is a quality brand as far as rule sets so it should be less shy about expanding the brand, an idea I've harbored for years. Why stop at 50 states when both China, Russia, European Union, Iran and others are all expanding their spheres of influence?
Makes sense to me. Seems to me Cuba would be the perfect beta test site....and if handled properly no shots need be fired.

131 - US States Renamed For Countries With Similar GDPs « Strange Maps
Interesting Barnett observation; The populations of the countries with GDP equal to individual states is approximately three and a half billion compared to our three hundred million. We can argue all day long about the messiness and imperfections of our system but those numbers have to prove we are doing something right.
